Project Director - Saving Newborn Life (SNL) - III Phase

The Project Director - SNL III Phase is responsible for providing overall country level strategic, technical and managerial leadership for the implementation of the project (2013-2017). In this capacity, s/he will guide the preparation and scaling up newborn health programs in country by institutionalizing it in close coordination with MoHP and its partners. S/he will oversee the design and implementation of country level strategies & plans; provide & coordinate technical oversight to the project; help shape & oversee implementation of the overall M&E framework and supervise in-country SNL staff/consultants. S/he will also be a key in-country spokesperson on policy and technical issues related to newborn health. S/he will be responsible for institutionalizing SNL/Newborn Health within the country office and leveraging resources within the country and Save the Children for newborn health.
Term and Location: Fixed term / Kathmandu Based

Required Qualification: At least Master’s Degree (Ph.D preferred) in Public Health with minimum 10 years of experience in development sector including 7 years’ experience in public health program

Required Knowledge and Skills: The incumbent should have outstanding skills in formulating strategies for the project, managing budget and networking/coordination to deal with high level government officials and international stakeholders. S/he should have strong understanding of project management and effective delivery of project along with excellent writing skills for reporting.

Gender & Social Inclusion (GSI) Specialist

The Gender & Social Inclusion (GSI) Specialist is responsible for ensuring that gender equity and social inclusion sensitivity and concerns are incorporated in the organization’s procedures, and in each stage of the project cycle; situation assessment, project development, planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. The responsibility includes developing strategies for ensuring organizational procedures and projects are GSI sensitive. This requires liaising with technical, managerial and finance staff. S/he is also responsible to build capacity of Save the Children staff and partners so that they are enabled to carry out many of these functions on their own. S/he documents success stories, case studies, best practices and lessons related to GSI as well as networks with other organizations including GSI resource organizations to identify best practices for GSI and to share Save the Children’s best practices and experience.
Term and Location: Fixed term / Kathmandu Based with regular travel to the field

Required Qualification: Master’s Degree in Women’s studies/gender studies, Political Science, Development Studies, Sociology, Human Rights or Law (Preferred) with at least 8 years of experience in development sector including 3 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills: The incumbent should be able to manage the overall GSI related budget and provide inputs in strategic direction to incorporate the GSI components in the country procedures, and program strategies and plans. S/he should have the capacity to conduct assessment of GSI and design/develop innovative GSI approaches accordingly to address key issues of children. S/he should have strong networking, coordination and negotiation skills to deal with senior policy makers, political leadership and other stakeholders. S/he should have excellent writing skills for knowledge management and documentation of GSI practices, results and innovations at national and international level.
Additional Skills (For Both Positions): The incumbent should have expertise in Microsoft office package and fluency in Nepali and English language (spoken and written). S/he should be able to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks in short deadlines and under pressure/stress. Commitment to the values, mission and policies of Save the Children International; willingness to travel within and outside country for developing network, partners’ capacity building etc. are required.

Project Manager - One Position
Fixed Term Position from joining date to August 2014- Based in Kathmandu
Key Responsibilities:
To facilitate effective functioning of DIpECHO-VII (Emergency Health Preparedness in Kathmandu Valley) through appropriate planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation; budget management, liaise with other NG0s, relevant government agencies and the ECHO country office to ensure coordination and learning across DipECHO partners, conduct internal impact evaluations of the project and organize with other DipECHO partners an end of programme external evaluation, responsible for the representation of Oxfam to partner organizations, donors, government, line ministries and other NGOs in relation to the project
Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) or WASH with minimum three years experience in DRR and WASH sectors; proven experience in project and partner management, coordination with Government and non government agencies. Experience on managing disaster preparedness projects and ECHO/DipECHO funded projects; experience in community based disaster risk management (CBORM) project implementation, knowledge and experience on gender equality and social inclusion: learning attitude; excellent verbal and written communication skills (English and Nepali), leadership skills; people management skill, experience in monitoring and evaluation, and willingness to frequently visit project field locations.
