GOVERNANCE ADVISOR
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu has a vacant position for a local governance advisor. Good governance is one of the main areas of development cooperation between Nepal and Norway. The governance support concentrates on democratic institutions, local governance, rule of law, public financial management and anti-corruption. The advisor will work in team with a Norwegian diplomat.
Norway aims at assisting Nepal in reaching its objectives of sustainable peace, reducing poverty and building an inclusive society based on democratic principles, human rights and social and economic equity. In addition to good governance, other priority areas in the development field are education and renewable energy. The Embassy was established in 2001, and employs approximately 25 people, including eight Norwegian diplomats. It is centrally located in Patan area (Bakhundole).
Main duties and responsibilities:
Manage program/project support (prepare decision documents and agreements, assess plans and progress/financial reports, participate in meetings, reviews, field visits etc.)
Prepare analysis, reports, speaking points and background information for the Embassy, mainly on governance related issues
Cooperate with partners for effective implementation of programs/projects, and contribute to a constructive dialogue and broad network with national stakeholders and international community in Nepal
Tasks related to other work at the Embassy might be assigned to the advisor depending on priorities and needs
Qualifications required:
A university degree at minimum Master’s level, preferably in a relevant subject
At least five years relevant working experience
Experience from grant management is an advantage
Excellent spoken and written Nepali and English as well as good computer skills
Strong networking, communication and inter-personal skills. Ability to work both efficiently and thoroughly, independently and in team
High personal integrity is required
The position is available from 1 August 2016. The first 6 months are probation. Short-listed candidates will be called for interview, including a written test and oral presentation. Salaries and benefits are competitive at national level and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
