Senior Coordinator - Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health (MNCH) Training (1 position)
Role Purpose
The Senior Coordinator - MNCH Training will be responsible for providing technical support to activities related to DFID Strengthening New Born Care Program in Nepal through Saving Newborn Lives (SNL). S/he will report to Manager - Field Operations/Quality of Care and support him/her for the implementation of the technical support activities including monitoring performance gaps in maternal and new born care interventions. The position holder will work in coordination with the focal point person of MNCH program in Child health Division (CHD) and Family Health Division (FHD) to ensure the effective implementation of project goals and innovative approaches to improve new born care and maternal health care related activities. S/he will play a vital role in advocating for MNCH and integrating programs related to MNCH within the FHD and CHD and thus scaling-up community and facility bases newborn health interventions in the districts. S/he will also closely work with District (Public) Health Office (D/PHO) and local partners for effective implementation and monitoring of MNCH related interventions funded by DFID and devote about 50% time in the project implementation districts.
Term and Location: Fixed term position till July 2015 based in Kathmandu
Required Qualification: Bachelors in Nursing or Public Health (Masters preferred) with at least 5 years of professional experience in designing, implementing and monitoring facility and community based MNH interventions and/or program in development organizations preferably in I/NGOs

Key Areas of Accountability
- Provide technical oversight on strengthening the new born care program and take lead for effective implementation of the various interventions designed to address for improving the quality and coverage of maternal and newborn health in DFID project selected districts.
- Provide technical input for integration of birth preparedness package (BPP) with other community based maternal and newborn program and strengthen their implementation in the field and assist in revitalization/strengthening the BPP.
- Support to conduct the rapid need assessment at district hospitals, health facilities and community level to find out the performance gaps of MNCH services in DFID funded project districts and assist to design the MNCH interventions to fulfill the gaps based on the findings of rapid assessment.
- Coordinate with CHD, FHD and concerning D/PHOs for contextual planning of MNCH interventions focusing on health facilities and community level health workers (FCHVs).
- Provide technical and facilitation support in MTOT/TOT and HF level trainings focusing on MNCH program and ensure quality of trainings at all levels.
- Revise/review training methodology, curriculum and related materials that best fits for contextual planning of MNH interventions.
- Ensure quality of implementation of MNH programs and design, piloting & scaling up the newer interventions in the districts.
- Build the capacity of DPHO and SNL project district based staff by transferring the MNCH related knowledge and skills so that they could perform the task for program implementation and monitoring without compromising the quality.
- Provide technical oversight to the district’s hospital and PHC’s doctors and nursing staff on BEOC and CEOC services for improving and sustaining these services. Likewise, provide necessary technical support for birthing centers aiming at improving the quality of services.
- Coordinate with FHD and LMD to supply the needy equipments, drugs and protocols to BEOC and CEOC sites.
- Support the government as needed to roll out of trainings and workshops related to maternal and neonatal health requested by the government and partners.
- Assist the Senior M&E Specialist and Program Managers to perform the various tasks for smooth implementation of the project and achieving the Organizational goal.
- Support to develop the monitoring/ quality assurance tools and guidelines for intensive monitoring of the MNCH programs through a range of approaches.
- Play a harmonize role among central and district based SNL team members and create enabling environment to work as team approach for achieving the common vision and goal of organization.
- Document the MNCH related activities e.g. planning, implementation, monitoring, achievements and lessons learned from the field. Provide assistance in assessments and studies.
- Maintain productive and consistent communication with Manager-Field Operations/Quality and Senior M&E Specialist to keep them fully updated on progress.
- Expertise and proven experience in conducting and monitoring trainings
- Experience in developing and reviewing training materials related to MNCH
- Ability to mentor and provide on-site coaching to health workers in government facilities providing delivery and new born health care services
- Co-ordination and interpersonal skills with multi-partners specially government
- Ability to effectively present information (orally and for publication) to government officials, funding organization, public groups, organizational management etc.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other standard software(s)
- Good communication skills (Nepali and English)
- Expertise in testing and scaling up programs in complex environments
- Strong organizational, interpersonal/cross-culture communication and time management skills while working in a diverse and dynamic team setting in a challenging environment.
