ICRC Vacancy:COMMUNICATION OFFICER

THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS (ICRC), an independent humanitarian organization whose mandate is to provide protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence has a vacancy for the following position based in Kathmandu.

COMMUNICATION OFFICER

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize and conduct International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law (IHRL) trainings for armed & security forces, Develop presentation materials to conduct the 1HL/IHRL courses/training.
  • Maintain contacts with relevant governmental bodies including armed and security forces.
  • Establish and maintain a network of contacts with the mass media (print, radio, TV) in the country.
  • Create media content on the delegation's humanitarian work for domestic and international use.
  • Ensure maintenance and regular update of Nepal section on the ICRC Website through compilation/writing of articles, photo galleries, interviews etc.
  • Develop and carry out public communication activities in consultation with other departments of the ICRC.
  • Keep track of political developments and evolving humanitarian situation in Nepal.
  • Represent the ICRC in various external meetings.
  • Disseminate the mandate and activities of the ICRC.
  • Prepare periodic reports.
  • Translate the documents of concern to the ICRC with high accuracy from national language to English and vice versa.
  • Handle other necessary administrative duties.
Minimum requirements:
  • University degree (Master) in any discipline preferably in law, political science and mass communication /journalism
  • Knowledge about system, function and structures of armed and security forces of Nepal.
  • Knowledge on International Humanitarian Lawand Human Rights Law.
  • 6 years work experience in a similar field especially with armed and security forces.
  • Work experience in journalism or public relations.
  • Excellent in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent presentation and training skills.
  • Very good analytical and writing skills.
  • Good public speaker.
  • Very good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • The successful applicants should be self-starters with a sense of responsibility, organizational skills and ability to take initiative. 
  • Ability to deal with diverse group of people, ability to cope with stressful situations, interpersonal & communication skills, patience, perseverance, team spirit, adaptability and self-confidence; and readiness to travel.
